BMMS Quick Family Guide

School Day

• School starts at 8:10 a.m.
• Students may be dropped off starting at 7:40 a.m.
• Before school, students go to the gym or the cafeteria for breakfast.
• School ends at 3:10 p.m.
• Last student check-out is 2:45 p.m.

Late Arrival

• Late students may check themselves in at the front office.

Student Check-Out

• Students may only be checked out by an adult listed as an approved contact. Adult must come to the front office and show a photo ID.

Absences

• If your child is absent, send in a note when they return or complete absence form on school website.
• If your child is absent for 3 or more days, a doctor's note is required.
• Contact teachers if you have questions about make-up work.

Transportation Changes

• Call the school by 2:45 p.m. if your child has a transportation change.
• To request a bus pass, send signed notes from both students' parents or guardians to the front office. A bus pass will be issued if the request is approved.

Clinic

• Keep your child home if they have a fever, vomiting, or diarrhea.
• Your child must be fever-free (without medicine) and free of vomiting or diarrhea for 24 hours before returning to school.
• A medication authorization form is required for medicine given at school. Forms are in the front office.
• If your child becomes sick or is injured at school, the clinic will care for your child and call you if they need to go home.

Items for Students

• Drop off lunches and other items at the front office.
• To avoid interrupting instruction, students are called to the front office during the first or last 10 minutes of class. Delivery times cannot be guaranteed.
• Families are welcome to eat lunch with their child in the designated family lunch area. See bell schedule for lunch times.

Free & Reduced Meals

• Apply every school year online at MySchoolApps.com or pick up an application from the School Nutrition Program office at the Lafayette Educational Center.
• Until your application is approved, your child must bring food from home or pay for school meals.

School Expectations

Cell Phones

• Personal devices must be turned off and locked in a locker during the school day.
• If you need to reach your child, please call the front office.
• Dress Code
• Clothing must fully cover the chest, back, waist, and upper thighs.
• Shoes are required.
• Clothing may not display alcohol, drugs, tobacco, vaping, violence, or inappropriate language.
• Hats and hoods are not worn inside the building.

Bus Behavior

• School rules apply on the bus and at the bus stop.
• Unsafe behavior may result in the loss of bus privileges.

Bullying

• Bullying, harassment, and threats are not tolerated.
• Students should report concerns to a trusted adult.

Fighting

• Fighting, horseplay, and encouraging others to fight are prohibited.
• School consequences will apply.

Vapes, Alcohol & Drugs

• Vapes, tobacco, alcohol, drugs, and related items are not allowed at school.
• Violations may result in suspension or other disciplinary action.

Learning and Progress

Academics

• Report cards are issued every 9 weeks.
• Families can check grades anytime in Infinite Campus.
• Students are responsible for completing missed work after an excused absence.
• 7th and 8th grade students must pass 4 academic classes to participate in school athletics.

STAR Reading & Math

Students take STAR Reading and STAR Math assessments three times each year. They are not graded.

• Measure reading and math skills.
• Track student growth.
• Help teachers plan instruction and provide extra support.

Georgia Milestones

Students take Georgia Milestones assessments each spring.

• Measure how well students have learned Georgia's grade-level standards.
• Grades 6–8: English Language Arts, Math
• Grade 8: Science and Social Studies

Support Student Success

• Check Infinite Campus regularly for grades and missing assignments.
• Encourage your child to attend school every day and arrive on time.
• Set aside a quiet time and place for homework each evening.
• Stay connected by reading school emails and communicating with teachers.

What Is Our School Improvement Plan?

Our School Improvement Plan (SIP) is our roadmap for helping every student succeed. It explains our goals, what we're doing to reach them, and how we'll measure our progress. We review the plan throughout the year and make changes as needed.

How We Track Our Progress

• School leaders review our progress every month.
• Teachers review student data every Thursday during Professional Learning Community (PLC) meetings.
• The principal and administrative team review school progress every Friday.

GOAL 1: Help Every Student Learn and Grow

What We're Doing

• Teachers meet every week to talk about student progress and plan lessons together.
• We use student data to decide who needs extra support.
• Teachers continue learning new teaching strategies.
• Students receive extra help through small groups and targeted instruction.
• Families are invited to workshops that share ways to support learning at home.
• Students who need extra help may attend programs like Summer Bronco Academy or Saturday School.

How We'll Know It's Working

• More students will score Proficient or Distinguished on the Georgia Milestones.
• Students will show growth on classroom and district assessments.
• Students will make at least 8% growth in reading and math from fall to spring.

GOAL 2: Help More Students Become Strong Readers

What We're Doing

• Teach reading skills in every subject.
• Use reading assessments to better understand each student's needs.
• Provide reading support for students who need extra help.
• Encourage students to read through book fairs, library visits, and reading activities.
• Share reading information with teachers and families so everyone can help students grow.

How We'll Know It's Working

• More students will read at or above grade level.
• More students will score above the 40th percentile on STAR Reading.
• Students will check out more than 17,000 books from the media center.
• Teachers will use reading data more often to support students.

GOAL 3: Build a Safe, Positive, and Welcoming School

What We're Doing

• Provide a digital Parent Resource Center.
• Offer parent-teacher conferences in person and online.
• Welcome and encourage family volunteers.
• Continue teaching school expectations through PBIS.
• Welcome new families with a Bronco Welcome Packet.
• Share more positive news with families.
• Build partnerships with local businesses and community organizations.

How We'll Know It's Working

• More families will connect with us through ParentSquare, our website, and social media.
• Students will continue learning positive behavior expectations.
