Why the Name Bennett's Mill?

Long before our school opened, Bennett's Mill was an important part of Fayette County's history. The school was named to honor the people, places, and traditions that helped shape our community.

A few highlights from our history:

  • 1823: The Bennett family settled in Fayette County.
  • 1837: William Bennett built Bennett's Mill on Whitewater Creek.
  • The mill ground corn and wheat for local families and farmers.
  • It became more than a mill—it was a gathering place where neighbors met for community events, picnics, and celebrations.
  • Bennett's Mill served the Fayette County community for nearly 100 years.
  • When our school opened in 2007, it was named Bennett's Mill Middle School to honor this important piece of our local heritage and remind us that strong communities are built by people who learn, work, and grow together.
